Gabriela Sepúlveda Ortíz is a Puerto Rican painter, muralist, and storyteller whose work blurs the lines between folklore, futurism, and fine art. Rooted in narrative and cultural reclamation, her vivid, genre-bending pieces explore motherhood, technology, femininity, and survival through a distinctly Caribbean lens.

A graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a Master’s from Atlantic University College, Gabriela has exhibited widely and created over 30 public murals. Her work has earned honors including the 2023 Arts Next Up Showcase Award and People’s Choice at The D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts.

Gabriela is the co-creator of Soot n Sprinkles magazine, a member of the Higgins artist team, and co-founder of mural collective Hare and Howl. Her practice centers joy, resistance, and myth—inviting viewers into visionary worlds where memory and imagination entwine.

Higgins Black India Ink is the first ink Higgins produced in 1880. Micro-pulverized black carbon is suspended in a shellac solution to create a deep charcoal pigmented drawing ink. Renown for its rich color and fluid consistency, Higgins India Ink has been a favorite among artists, calligraphers, and illustrators for over 140 years. Artists depend on Higgins India Ink for its reliable ability to make consistent bold and expressive brush strokes and delicate pen work.

Celebrated not only for its permanence and waterproof qualities but also for its ability to produce a full spectrum of shades, from light to dark for high-contrast work, depending on dilution. India ink’s fast-drying nature and archival quality ensure that artwork maintains vibrancy and integrity. When mixed with other Higgins inks, it can create muted shades excellent for gradations and shadows. This ink is compatible with a wide range of media, making it ideal for outlining, lettering, and mixed media projects involving watercolor, acrylics, graphite, pastel, alcohol markers, and more!

Usage: May be diluted with distilled water. Close cap tightly after use. Do not mix with acids, or use as tattoo ink. Not launder-proof. Clean tools with water immediately after use or with Higgins Pen Cleaner for dried ink. Shake well before use as the black pigment may settle over time.

A must-have color for CMYK mixing secondary and tertiary colors when combined with Magenta and Blue Pigmented Inks. Micro-pulverized pigments are suspended in a professional quality shellac solution. Colors are brilliant and inter-mixable with other Higgins Inks to create custom colors. Inks can be diluted with distilled water. Compatible with dip pens, brushes, and airbrushes, with good adhesion to most surfaces such as paper, board, and film. Higgins Pigmented Ink dries to a semi-gloss sheen when applied thickly, and a matte sheen when applied with a dip pen. Colors are water-resistant and dry in about 10 minutes. Dry time may vary due to ambient humidity and the porousness of the substrate.

Before use, mix thoroughly. Shaking the bottle may cause bubbles, which do not affect the color. The dropper allows you to measure out the color before putting it into a well or dish for mixing or applying directly to a substrate. Close cap tightly after use. Do not mix with acids, or use as tattoo ink. Not launder-proof. Clean tools with tap water immediately after use or use Higgins Pen Cleaner for dried ink.
